One thing i ever had with Twitter is that when i made my account there last year i didn't have any proper following, i was just settling for a new public. I'm not sure if it has to do with how you grow up with a community, but from my experience i only got tons of likes only in one specific tweet in which i made a unfinished Oneshot fanart with tons of hashtags in it.
It only worked because... well, probably at that time Oneshot was still a bit trendy. But out of the rest i only posted doodles and whatsoever, alongside screenshots of games i was playing.
None of these, however, got me any click, so basically no one noticed clearly.
At that point i gotten so tired that i felt like i was desperately trying to seek attention despite not having a following. No one commented on any of my tweets, no one retweeted at least 2-3 times, just nothing really happened. So i felt like Twitter has only become pretty much my personal microblog BUT after last few days since i said it i called it quits after discovering Mastodon.

Today i kind of disappreciate posting on big corporate social media platforms like that just to seek attention, i'd first rather start finding some peeps on more aggregable community sites like Newgronds, which is why i have been getting along this period.
By the way i'm not stopping you from using Twitter. All i've been telling here is just my experience so your mileage may vary.

No I get that. It's mainly the reason I stopped using Twitter years ago. It's just not for me and constantly trying to chase followers was just not for me. It's also why I prefer posting on my main SFW art accounts because I just post whatever I want to and whatever new projects I want to work on for my own stories. It has become a lot more fun since I realized chasing followers was just kind of a waste of time. I enjoy talking with others and sharing ideas rather than having a bunch of people click "like" on something I post.

The main reason I'm making a Twitter atm, is just because a lot of people are using it, and I hope I'll be able to sell some art in order to save up for some hospital bills I've accrued recently. I prefer places like Newgrounds or other sites to actually have connections with people. Plus, like I said, it has one of my favorite ways to upload with the content rating and everything.
